We try to organise accompanying events and entertainment to make sure your visit is a really enjoyable and rewarding experience for all the family Here are some details about forthcoming special attractions at the market.

Apple Market - Saturday 22nd October

Apple Day is celebrated on 21st October. Apple Day is an annual celebration of apple, orchards and local distinctiveness, initiated by Common Ground in 1990 it has since been celebrated each year by people organising their own local events. The Tavistock Farmers Market is marking the occasion with a number of apple related events at their market on 23rd October 2004.

This will include a display of local apple varieties, a demonstration of a working apple press, apple tasting, longest apple peel competition, and the opportunity to buy a range of local apples and apple products, including local varieties of apple trees.

The First Tavistock Apple Day, which took place in 2001, was a small affair but very successful. The main event centred around local apple experts, James Evans and Mary Martin who brought with them a display of about 30 local varieties of apple, and were able to assist people in identification and advice etc. They had a steady stream of people all morning. The Tamar Orchard Volunteers also provided some leaflets and literature and the Tamar Valley Countryside Service/CDT provided a display of their new market gardening project. Pete Mayston brought his apple press along with a selection of apples for sale, and Westlake Farm, Countryman Cider sold juice and cider. The WI also sold a range of apple products.

Christmas Market - Saturday 24th December
Orders for all your seasonal Christmas meat and vegetables can be collected on this day, please place your orders with the producers as far in advance as you can to avoid disappointment. If you don’t wish to pre-order then our advice is get to the market early to purchase your fresh, organically reared poultry and vegetables as demand is always high.

Hire our Stalls for your Event!
The stalls used at Tavistock Farmers' Market are available for hire to be used at other events - we have recently undertaken outside hires at the following events – Launceston Farmers’ market – Tamar Valley Festival – Tavistock Forward – Plymouth City Council Countryside Event – WDBC Safety in the home and many others. All of the hirers have been impressed with the efficiency and professionalism shown by our excellent team of stall erectors and at prices that are more than comparable with the cost of a marquee.
